1961 Gamma Sports.
This is a fascinating car with an interesting story.
I bought this 1955 Gamma(derived from Austin,Morris and MGA!) sports car from a gent who is now 85 years old.
He was a draughtsman with General Motors in Port Elizabeth,South Africa in the late 50's and built this car up himself using the mechanical parts from a new but smashed on delivery 1955 Austin A50.
The center section of the body is aluminium while the front and back sections are of fibre glass.
It has a space frame chassis made of steel tubing.
The motor is to MGA specs with high compression pistons and a special camshaft.
It has two 8 gallon fuel tanks and the under carriage is enclosed with an aluminium under tray.
It was completed in 1961 after at least 5,000 hours of work.
I have lots of black and white photo's as well a newspaper article from the Rand Daily Mail in 1961.
The cars performs really well and is a lot of fun to drive.
It has a tonneau cover but no soft top.
It is registered as a 1961 model.Perfect for historic racing!Only one in the world!
Selling for R285,000.
