The Mercedes Benz SL R107 was produced for 18 years from 1971 to 1989. The 500SL was introduced by Mercedes in March 1980, it has a 4973cc engine which produced 240hp and a new four speed automatic transmission. The 500SL was the flagship of the R107 range when launched and is consequently more desirable and sought after today.
This 500 SL, in cream, was supplied in February 1981 by Alan Day Ltd of Hampstead to Mr Wallace King of Hendon. The car has it's original maintenance booklet, owners manual and pre delivery check sheet. A number of MOT's from the life of the vehicle are available as well as servicing and maintenance records. The car benefits from the optional extra of occasional use rear seats, rather than the usual rear deck. The car has a current MOT valid until September 2017.
The car has undergone recent restoration, the boot lid, boot springs and soft top horseshoe have been replaced, as have the offside rear inner and outer wings, offside boot floor, and the rear boot bulkhead. The off side front foot well as been repaired with a replacement kick plate. The car also has had new shock absorbers fitted and the speedometer has been overhauled. The car is supplied with a very good soft top and a satisfactory hard top, which is not original to the car. The fabric interior and door cards are original and showing some signs of age related wear. There is a slight colour shade difference between the front and rear of the car. The offside boot carpet panel is missing and the offside rear bumper quarter is bubbling.
This is a very solid appreciating classic with the corrosion issues evident on many R107's, of this era, addressed. it provides a fantastic opportunity to acquire one of the most desirable R107's.
