The Tourette was a microcar by Carr Brothers of Purley,
London manufactured between 1956 and 1958 and was first shown at
the Earl's Court motor show in November 1956. It had a
three-wheeled, rounded body that was available either in aluminium
on an ash frame or in fibreglass. The car was powered by a
two-stroke 197cc Villiers engine driving through a four-speed
gearbox with top speed claimed to be 55mph. The single rear wheel
was mounted in a pivotal fork and the front-wheel movement was
controlled by hydraulically damped spring units; final drive was by
chain. A single bench seat provided accommodation for two adults
and a child with some luggage space behind the seat. In 1958, the
purchase price was an eye-watering £386-10s-5d. Only 26 units are
believed to have been produced.

This is a genuine Tourette Supreme and was originally
registered on 4th December 1957. Microcar collectors and
enthusiasts will appreciate the rarity of such a car, this is
thought to be one of only three surviving cars worldwide although
recently a number of reproduction cars have been produced. The
quirkiness of these almost 'spacecraft' like vehicles has to be
seen to be appreciated. The vendor searched long and hard to find
this example and it has been featured in many of the articles
written about Tourettes. We are advised the 197cc Villiers engine
runs well and 136 PMH is fitted with the reverse gear
option-engaged by running the engine backwards. Supplied with a V5C
registration document, this little gem has been in a
private collection for a number
of years.
