Jaguar XK120 Roadster - According to the 'Trace Certificate', this particular roadster was originally exported to New York in March 1952. The first title on record is to a Charles Goggi of North Carolina 2nd February 1953. A 'Bill of Sale' on file shows that it was then later sold to a Mr Barker who re-patriated it back to the UK in February 1983.

In 1990, Mr Barker commissioned a well known restoration company in the North East to carry out a full nut & bolt rebuild to including it's original drive train. Completed in 1993, it appears from documentation on file that it was then put into storage. The first MOT on file is from July 1997 at 245 miles.

In late 2002/early 2003 it's then new owner decided to have it converted to wire wheels, the steering converted to RHD and front disc brakes fitted. A fresh MOT was carried out at completion of work (326 miles). Current mileage shown is circa 2,000 miles.

History file containing restoration invoices (in excess of £54k) Heritage Certificate, ownership history and full weather equipment of side screens, soft top and tonneau cover are included in this sale.

Much sought after, this superb driving car is in excellent all round condition offering fantastic value at this price. 1952 JAGUAR XK120 ROADSTER

Jaguar MK1 - Introduced at the October 1955 Earl's Court Motor Show, the MKI 2.4 litre was intended to broaden Jaguar's appeal beyond the volatile luxury and sportscar market sectors. Notable as the Coventry manufacturer's first monocoque design, it was equipped with independent coil and wishbone front suspension, a Panhard rod-located leaf-sprung back axle and four-wheel hydraulic drum brakes (though, vacuum assisted discs soon became optional). Structurally over-engineered (especially above the waistline), the compact sports saloon was powered by a 2483cc DOHC straight-six engine allied to either four-speed manual or three-speed automatic transmission. Though, with some 112bhp and 140lbft of torque on tap, it still boasted class-leading 100mph performance. Maintaining a sense of originality despite being stylistically indebted to its MKVII and XK140 siblings, the MKI 2.4 litre remained in production until 1959.

This historically important car was registered by it's first owner in July 1958 and remained in his ownership until 1972 when he part exchanged it for a new Austin Maxi. Having acquired the MK1 in 1972 it was used occassionally by it's 2nd owner who decided in 2000 to have it professionally and comprehensively restored. The restoration was completed in 2003 , since when, it has covered just 3,000 miles. It is still in superb condition with excellent rust free panels, being let down only (on very close inspection) by a less than perfect 'freshen up' respray last year. Increasingly rare, matching number car, still fitted with it's original valve radio and 'automatic' ariel.

Complete with full ownership history, buff log books from new, V5, 12 months MOT and restoration / maintenance invoices from 1972 to 2009.

SINGER LE MANS - The success of the Nine Sport at Le Mans led immediately to the introduction in 1933 of the first Le Mans model. This was the two seater equivalent of the Nine Sports and it typified the British sports car of the 1930’s. At a price of 215 pounds, an output of 34 h.p. and a top speed of over 70 m.p.h. with the windshield lowered, it provided keen competition for its closest rivals, the J2 and P series M.G.’s.

The Le Mans 4 cylinder performance engine of 972 cc included high lift harmonic cams, a counterbalanced crankshaft and an extra large capacity ribbed oil sump for greater cooling capacity. Additional drive train modifications included a heavy duty clutch and a closer ratio gear box, with third gear reduced from 8.7:1 to 7.5:1. Body changes included the addition of an externally mounted 12 gallon slab fuel tank, fitted with a quick action filler cap and twin rear mounted spare tires to complete the competition look. The new upswept scuttle cowls also signaled that this was a machine that meant business on the road as well as the track.

Supplied by Agents Cook & Palmer to privateer racer J.R. Hodge (Sir John Hodge in later life) on the 1st February 1934, Reg. AYK 561. An extract from correspondence on file from Sir John in 1988 confirms it’s race pedigree “I raced the car at Donnington, Brooklands and of course at the dirt track at Greenford. I also won quite a number of speed trials.” Records show that he won the Junior Class at Brooklands on the 7th July 1934 at an average speed of 73.89 mph and at the Greenford dirt track. In fact the picture shown was taken for the Automobile Racing Club magazine and was accompanied by the text below:

Aston Martin DB2/4 Tickford Saloon - The DB2/4 car introduced from late 1952 and included a number of significant changes from its predecessor model, the DB2. This included raising the roof line to accommodate 2 vestigial rear seats, the introduction of a rear hatch, (the first true “hatchback”), and to accommodate this extra weight, the engine size and power was increased. In short the car was transformed into one that the family man could use too. It remains to this day an amazingly practical, beautifully constructed package, whether for club racing at one extreme or in which one can just go down to the shops at the other. It remains a brilliant long distance touring car for the age of the car.

The Tickford bodied DB2/4 Mk2 was manufactured from late 1955. It came with additional bright-work, minor changes to the bonnet construction, better front seats and lighter than it's predecessor. The chassis and 3 litre engine specifications were carried over unchanged. Extremely rare with only 145 saloons produced before the introduction of the MK3 in 1958.

The DB2/4 MkII on offer here has until recently been in a single family ownership since 1973. An older restoration which still shows and drives extremely well having covered very few miles since. A matching number car with no deviations from original specification making it eligible for a multitude of events - in particular the Mille Miglia. With entries closing for the Mille Miglia on the 20th December, if you are quick you could potentially be running in next year’s race.
